J1 CARES: A BAG OF HOPE PROJECT
Last June 29, 2018 J1 CARES in cooperation with Zip Travel Philippines and Zip Travel International held its annual outreach program titled “A Bag of Hope” Project. The project aims to provide school supplies for the underprivileged students in the Aeta community of Sitio Haduan and Marcos Village in Mabalacat, Pampanga.
After seeing the situations of both communities the representatives of Zip Travel and J1 CARES conceptualized the “A Bag of Hope” Project, single handedly the biggest community-directed project that the J1 CARES took on. “A Bag of Hope” Project aimed to provide school supplies for the students in both communities but with more focus on the community of Sitio Haduan since they are located a difficult to reach location and less access to stores and services.
J1 CARES has collected more than 300 sets of bags with the basic school supplies such as notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons and pad papers. Each set of bags are set based on the grade levels of the students. The donations came from J1 Alumni, Visa Sponsors and Host Organizations. On the day of the Outreach program, J1 alumni and employees of Zip Travel spent the day with the children and gave them the bag sets.
The smiles on their young faces were more than enough to show that “every act of kindness no matter how small can make a big difference in the world.”
